Why did you choose the Executive MBA program?

When researching MBA programs I was looking for something that was well-rounded throughout all areas of leadership and business management. I did not want to solely focus on finance, so similar programs in the region just weren't enticing for me. The inclusion of an International Seminar ultimately sealed the deal over comparable programs elsewhere.

How has your education helped your career?

Even during the program, I was able to see immediate results. From being able to analyze my department's financials for budgetary and P&L, to organizational team structural strategies, my new knowledge was helping me restructure my department's teams and talent. Within a month of finishing the program I had several opportunities to interview for executive level positions with new organizations, ultimately landing a new position as Vice President of Engineering at Blackthorn.io. One of the key items that the CEO referenced in his decision making was the fact that I had just finished (specifically) an Executive MBA. I was being considered for this role against two other candidates with similar backgrounds to mine that didn't have MBAs, which helped tip the scales in my favor. Last but not least: Confidence. This program has given me the confidence that I can lead from this level, which is something that I've not always had.

What has been the biggest takeaway from your experience?

Patience and empathy. All of the people in my cohort each had so many different talents to bring to each of their teams. I'm traditionally not a very patient person, but this program helped me slow down enough to "see the forest through the trees" with each of my peers within my cohort. Each of my teammates had different life altering events happen to us during the program. Seeing each of them struggle, being able to help them when they were struggling, and knowing that they were there for me while I was going through mine truly helped me step back.

What is your best piece of advice?

The program is a marathon, not a sprint. Pace yourself. Enter every class with an open mind and recognize that even though you may excel at something, there are plenty of your peers that are benefitting more than you realize. One the flipside, there will be classes that you may need the help of your classmates. It's very much a team effort throughout the program.

If you had to do it all over again, would you?

One hundred times over again. Between the confidence, knowledge, incredible network, and the life-long friends that I've gained from this program, it's by far one of the best things I've done in my life and career.
