Chemical engineering student Natalie Bedolla-Mortensen is playing a role in reengineering tiny particles that could one day become cell tissues of 3D-printed organs. Her research is part of Rochester Institute of Technology’s work in the growing field of soft matter development.

To help students stand out in a competitive job market, RIT alumni recruiters attending the University-Wide Career Fair on Sept. 23 shared advice on networking, showing initiative, and building confidence. The Career Fair featured more than 200 local, regional, and national companies.

Researchers have discovered new ways to bend light to improve optical applications such as sensors, displays, and next-generation photonic devices.

As the final phase of the new research building is completed, faculty-researchers from three of RIT’s colleges are preparing to be its first residents. They expect to move into the 39,000-square-foot building in the spring semester.

The two-year project will explore the effectiveness of using an alternative, one-step ethylene production route which reduces the formation of unwanted by-products such as carbon dioxide as opposed to the multi-step process currently being used.

Joshua Schwartz, a fourth-year chemical engineering student and the president of the American Cancer Society chapter on campus, discusses this year’s Relay For Life. In the past three years, the event has raised $210,000.

Brian Landi and Katie McConky have been named department heads of the chemical engineering and industrial and systems engineering programs in the college. Both bring extensive teaching, research, and company experience to the academic leadership positions in the engineering college.
