The Hammer Family Packaging and Graphic Media Center will consist of several laboratories focused on materials testing, distribution, digital processing, and workflow analysis for packaging and commercial printing. 

For RIT students, the learning doesn’t stop when classes end. In 2021, three student teams took what they’re learning and used it to win national and international competitions in cybersecurity, racing, and design.

Chonte’ Martin, Atlanta’s facility management director of operations, started her career 25 years ago after learning electrical work in technical school. She received her advanced graduate certificate in project management from RIT’s School of Individualized Study and continued her online study to complete her master’s degree in facility management.

Two RIT alumni—and a third just a few months shy of the age cut-off—were named on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for 2022. Jackie Wiley ’16 (game design and development) was honored in the Games category, and Dylan Ayrey ’15 (computer engineering) was named in the Enterprise Technology category.

Veterans Outreach Center honored Rochester Institute of Technology, Foodlink, and the CHS Mobile Integrated Health teams this week with its annual Service Provider Awards. The ceremony, held at the local center, recognized the groups’ contributions in the areas of employment, food and living resources, and medical services for area veterans.

Three researchers developed a set of tools using advanced augmented and virtual reality technology to preserve and replicate acoustics of historical venues. Their work was part of an international project bringing attention to the overlooked work in preserving aural heritage.

Kelly Fellner is still packing heat. The packaging science major has been on three winning RIT student teams in the past four years at the annual Paperboard Packaging Design Challenge. In 2018, she was part of the Packing Heat team that took first place for its subscription box filled with fiery sauces and treats.

All eyes were on international pharmaceutical giant Pfizer this past year as it raced to produce needed COVID-19 vaccines. Staff across the company—including Christopher Vollaro ’21 MS—played a role in the development and distribution process.

Rebecca Bober, a third-year packaging science major from Bloomfield, N.Y., recently earned Eagle Scout rank with Boy Scouts of America, becoming the first female Eagle Scout in the Finger Lakes region.
