Best Practices for Laundry

laundry detergent in front of machine
  • Use high-efficiency (HE) liquid laundry detergent. Read the instructions on the detergent and use only the amount recommended.
  • Only use liquid soap. Do not use detergent PODS or beads in the washers.
  • A maximum of 20 pounds of dry clothes in the washer at a time. Once clothes become wet, they are heavier and can break the machine.
  • Locked washer doors can take up to 10 minutes before automatically unlocking. Please wait patiently before reporting an issue.
  • Leave washing machine doors open after removing laundry to allow moisture to escape and prevent mold and mildew smells.
  • Clean out the lint trap in the dryer after each use.
Clothing Left in Laundry
  • Clothing left in washers, dryers or tables will be collected every Friday by 2 p.m.
  • Clothing will be bagged and labeled with the washer, dryer or table number the items came out of.
  • Retrieve missing clothing by visiting the Residence Life Service Desk in Kate Gleason Hall, Mon–Fri 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
  • Remember the washing, dryer or table numbers clothes were left in when reclaiming items.
