"I did an international co-op in the Department of Sexology at the University of Québec at Montréal as part of the Mitacs Globalink Research Fellowship Program. My co-op entailed the partial analysis of a data set collected as part of the project Social Well-Being, Empowerment, and Resilience in the Face of Adversity (SWERV) which aims to investigate pathways to empowerment and well-being among 2SLGBTQ+ youth and emerging adults in Canada.
I’m working towards the publication of a journal article exploring the role of internalized heterocissexism in impacting empowerment and psychosocial well-being. My day-to-day affairs were conducted entirely in French – everything except writing the journal article, actually. The project has definitely been challenging, and I’ve had to teach myself about difficult topics like advanced statistical analyses without much help, but I’m ultimately glad for the opportunity to improve my skills as a researcher and explore new perspectives. Montréal is truly incredible in the summer, with festivals and events every weekend, so getting to spend my time here has definitely been an incredible privilege."
