From Rochester to Japan

Helping people connect even when they speak different languages is what drives Applied Modern Language and Culture (Japanese track) major Susannah Johnson.

She and five other RIT students connected virtually with groups of middle school students in Japan, helping the middle schoolers practice their conversational English skills while they improved their fluency in Japanese.

"The smiles on their faces I'll never forget," said Susannah.

Susannah, a first-year student, says experiences like this plus a strong co-op program and study abroad options are what makes majoring in a language at RIT so special.
