The Federal government has shut down all non-essential spending operations as of midnight 10/1/2025. RIT has not yet received any directions from federal funding agencies as to how this may impact RIT’s active awards.
Generally during a shutdown, we can expect:
- PIs should still have the ability to submit proposals
- New awards are typically not issued during a shutdown
- Peer review panels are typically suspended
- NTID operations will experience minimal immediate impact
- Staff at funding agencies are likely to be unreachable
- Unless a Stop Work order is received for a specific project or from a specific sponsor, work on sponsored projects may continue. Note, however, that payments may be delayed. This will vary greatly by sponsor and length of the shutdown. Work with your department to determine risks, especially if large outlays of award funds are expected to be made during the shutdown.
SRS will continue to monitor the situation and provide guidance to the RIT community as information is received. SRS requests that if PIs receive direct communication from sponsors related to the shutdown, that those communications be forwarded to postaward@rit.edu .
