The American Center of Oriental Research (ACOR) offers various Fellowships for research in Jordan. The American Center of Research (formerly the American Center of Oriental Research) was established in 1968 to serve as a hub for scholars in Jordan. Our history has a special emphasis on archaeology, but includes robust support for historians, ethnographers, sociologists, political scientists, biologists, and various other scholars of literature, sciences, and the arts.

ACLS continues to be the leading private institution supporting scholars in the humanities and related social sciences at the doctoral and postdoctoral levels. Fellows and grantees in all programs are selected by committees of scholars appointed for this purpose.

For more than 50 years, the American Institute of Indian Studies has provided funding to pre- and post-doctoral scholars and artists in pursuit of knowledge about India.

ARIT supports and administers programs of fellowships for scholarly research and for language study in Turkey. Programs for scholars and graduate students based in the U.S. and Canada include the ARIT, the ARIT National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship programs, and the ARIT Summer Language Program at Boğazici University in Istanbul. ARIT Fellows come from all regions of North America and represent many fields of the humanities and social sciences. ARIT fellowships support individual research projects in ancient, historical, and modern times in all fields of the humanities and social sciences, that must be carried out in Turkey.

The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) offers fellowships (up to $23,000) and grants (up to $5,000) to individuals to pursue research, study or creative arts projects in one or more Scandinavian country for up to one year.

For more than eighteen years, Anatolia has been hosting recent US college and university graduates for an academic year long fellowship – living on campus and working with our students, faculty and staff. From teaching, mentoring, counselling, to doing institutional research, our Fellows have been involved with student life while they live their own unique experience in a country rich with history and opportunities to explore their own interests.

Arcadia is an RIT affiliate study abroad partner and offers scholarships for their programs. All students applying to Arcadia study abroad programs are encouraged to apply to scholarships. Arcadia offers funding for students with financial need as well as provides resources for other destination-specific scholarships. The AIA’s mission includes supporting and promoting archaeological research and its dissemination. The AIA offers a variety of scholarships, fellowships, and grants for excavation, research, publication, and site preservation.

The Asian Cultural Council makes fellowships and grants to support cultural exchange in the arts for practicing artists, scholars, and arts professionals. Whether Asian or American, whether a cutting-edge painter or a traditional dancer, whether a classical musician or a modern cultural archeologist—any gifted individual artist or scholar who seeks to grow in his or her craft or field can apply for funding to conduct research and study, receive specialized training, undertake observation tours, or pursue non-commercial creative activity in the United States or among the countries of Asia.

This Fellowship is primarily intended to support field/research on ancient Mesopotamian civilization carried out in the Middle East, but other projects such as travel to work on museum collections or archives related to ancient Mesopotamia will also be considered.

The Gilman Scholarship Program broadens the student population that studies and interns abroad by supporting undergraduates who might not otherwise participate due to financial constraints. The program aims to encourage students to study and intern in a diverse array of countries or areas and world regions. The program also encourages students to study languages, especially critical need languages (those deemed important to national security). Veterans of military service are encouraged to apply, and preference is given to veterans when other factors are equivalent. By supporting undergraduate students who have high financial need, the program has been successful in supporting students who have been historically underrepresented in education abroad, including but not limited to first-generation college students, ethnic minority students, students with disabilities, students attending HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) or other minority-serving institutions, students attending community colleges, and students coming from U.S. states with less study abroad participation. The Bicentennial Swedish-American Exchange fund is open to applicants from the United States to provide the opportunity for those in a position to influence public opinion and contribute to the development of their society to make a two- to four-week study trip to Sweden. The travel grant’s purpose is to support opinion-forming projects within areas such as politics, public administration, unions, organizations, mass media, industry and commerce, K-12 education, and culture.

Boren Scholarships, an initiative of the National Security Education Program, provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests, and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded. Before applying for a Boren Award scholarship, students should already have a study abroad program in mind that meets the requirements for the award. The Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. The United States-Japan Bridging Foundation funds scholarships through AATJ to help students study abroad in Japan for a semester or an academic year.

The Bright!Tax Global Scholar Initiative provides supplemental funds for American students who are already or will be studying abroad under the auspices of an accredited academic institution. Scholarships are available for full semester programs.

Each year BUTEX awards a number of scholarships to students studying abroad for a semester or a whole academic year, and students undertaking a work/internship/traineeship placement of varying lengths of time. Applicants must be attending a BUTEX-affiliate university partner.

The Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program (CADFP) is a scholar fellowship program for educational projects at African higher education institutions, specifically designed to host African-born scholars.

The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professional (CBYX) is a fellowship funded by the German Bundestag and U.S. Congress, that annually provides 75 American and 75 German Young Professional the opportunity to spend one year in each others' countries, studying, interning, and living with hosts on a cultural immersion program. A year-long fellowship program that includes German language instruction, semester study in Germany, and semester-long internship. The program consists of three phases: • Two months of intensive German language training in Germany (Aug-Sept) • One semester of classes in your academic or career field at a university, technical or professional school in Germany* (Oct-Feb) • Three-month internship in Germany in your career field** (March-June) Open to candidates in all career fields. CKS provides in-country research fellowships and language study fellowships for U.S., Cambodian and French scholars and doctoral students on a yearly basis. The CKS U.S. Research Fellowship Program is funded by the Council of American Overseas Research Centers through the U.S. State Department Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Funds for impact-oriented internships or volunteer projects abroad. The Christianson Grant is awarded to individuals who have arranged their own overseas service programs. Proposed programs must be at least six months in length and emphasize a service and community component. The grant does not support independent research projects or academic study abroad programs.

CIEE Frederick Douglass Global Fellows will explore conflict and injustice from various perspectives and the leaders who sought to affect positive change for their communities and their countries. Fellows will return to America with new perspectives on how effective leaders influence positive social change and inspired to be the catalyst for positive change in their communities and in our world. This Fellowship is a fully funded summer study abroad program designed for students of color as part of CIEE’s commitment to open doors for all students from all backgrounds. CIEE is an RIT affiliate study abroad partner and offers more than $13 million in scholarships and grants annually to help high school or college students make their dreams of studying abroad a reality. CIEE offers need-based scholarships, merit scholarships, and scholarships by location. Students apply for CIEE scholarships through the CIEE application portal.

CIS Abroad is an RIT study abroad affiliate partner and offers various scholarships and grants for their programs for academic excellence as well as for overcoming financial need and other social hurdles. Students apply for CIS scholarships through the CIS application portal.

Provides support to RIT students in their desire to study at RIT Croatia. Recipients must be in good academic standing, able to demonstrate financial need, interested in studying at RIT Croatia and matriculated at RIT's Henrietta campus. Students who are applying for RIT Croatia study abroad programs will automatically be considered for this scholarship when applying for a program in the RIT Study Abroad Compass. Supports college women in learning about other cultures through the study of languages and study abroad. Provides financial assistance to young women who have received the Girl Scout Silver or Gold award.

The Society for the Humanities at Cornell University seeks interdisciplinary research projects that reflect on philosophical, aesthetic, political, ecological, religious, psychoanalytical, and cultural understandings.

The Multi-Country Research Fellowship enables US scholars to carry out trans-regional and comparative research in countries across the network of Overseas Research Centers as well as other countries. The fellowship supports advanced research in the humanities, social sciences, and allied natural sciences for US doctoral candidates, who are all but dissertation, and scholars who have earned their PhD. Applicants are eligible to apply as individuals or as teams. Scholars must carry out research in two or more countries outside the US, at least one of which must host a participating Overseas Research Center.

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) provides an intensive language study program for US students, funded by the US Department of State. Receive intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences designed to promote rapid language gains. Awardees study one of 15 critical languages for approximately 8-10 weeks over the summer. Most languages do not require previous experience • No previous experience: Azerbaijani, Bangla, Hindi, Indonesian, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, Urdu • 1 year experience: Arabic, Korean, Portuguese, Russian • 2 years’ experience: Chinese, Japanese If you have an interest in future U.S. government work or international relations, the CLS scholarship is the most prestigious language program for U.S. citizens and would be an exceptional addition to your resume. The Cultural Vistas Fellowship affords underrepresented U.S. university students the unique opportunity to advance their career goals, develop global competencies, and experience life in another culture. Cultural Vistas will select up to 12 fellows to take part in this multinational professional development program that includes eight-week summer internships in various countries around the world.

DIS is an RIT study abroad affiliate partner and offers scholarships based on financial need and diversity to attend DIS study abroad programs. Students must be applying to a semester or summer DIS program in Denmark or Sweden.

The Overseas Ambassador Program provides a $500 stipend for students or recent graduates who are planning to study, intern, volunteer or teach abroad. The Overseas Ambassadors will serve as an overseas correspondent, sharing their experiences to motivate other members of the DiversityAbroad.com community to go abroad.

Established in 2013, the endowment provides support to RIT students in their desire to study at RIT Croatia. Recipients must be in good academic standing, able to demonstrate financial need, interested in studying at RIT Croatia and matriculated at RIT's Henrietta campus. This Scholarship if funded in part by donors and in part by RIT quasi-endowed funds. Students who are applying for RIT Croatia study abroad programs will automatically be considered for this scholarship when applying for a program in the RIT Study Abroad Compass. EMGIP (Émigré Memorial German Internship Program) offers internship opportunities for U.S. and Canadian students in the German parliament, the Bundestag. The internships are two months long and EMGIP tries to match the position with the student’s interests and experiences. Interns will be placed within the Verwaltung, preferably with a Sekretariat working for their preferred Ausschuss. In addition to contributing to the respective offices, interns have the opportunity to study legislative and administrative procedures in the German parliament.

Provides support to students for pursuing a graduate degree in the humanities at the University of Oxford.

EURIAS Fellowships are mainly offered in the fields of the humanities and social sciences but may also be granted to scholars in life and exact sciences, provided that their proposed research project does not require laboratory facilities and that it interfaces with humanities and social sciences.

Recipients of the scholarship receive $2,000 to help finance their international trip as long as they have an educational or service component to their itinerary.

Full-time undergraduate and graduate students of all academic disciplines who are currently enrolled in accredited post-secondary schools in the United States and Finland are eligible for FFN scholarships.

Finlandia Foundation National annually invites applications for its grants program, which awards funds for projects related to Finnish-American and Finnish history, heritage, preservation, arts and culture. Finlandia Foundation National invites high-quality projects on a competitive basis that relate to past, present or future of Finnish and Finnish-American culture.

First Trip values the philosophy of global citizenship and promotes travel to non-traditional study abroad locations. First Trip provides funding to countries ranked lower than Very High on the United Nations annual Human Development Index (HDI).

Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA) provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. A Freeman-ASIA award provides need-based funding to assist the recipient with the cost of the study abroad program and related expenses, including airfare, basic living costs, local transportation, books, etc. If applying for this scholarship, you must meet with the RIT Education Abroad & International Fellowships office. A 10-12 week summer internship for U.S. students to work on research projects in Canada in the areas of science, engineering, math, and social sciences. Fellows will work on advanced research projects under the supervision of a Canadian university. May be able to be used to fullfill a summer co-op. The Fulbright Scholar Program offers U.S. faculty, administrators and professionals grants to lecture, conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields, or to participate in seminars. The Fulbright Program, the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government, is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. 4 Award Types: Scholar Awards Postdoctoral Awards Distinguished Scholar Awards International Education Administrator Awards Length: a few months to a year (typically during the academic year), or flex option (allows multiple visits over two years). A program of the U.S. Department of State, the Fulbright Specialist Program is a unique opportunity for U.S. academics and established professionals to engage in two- to six-week, project-based exchanges at host institutions across the globe. Specialists, who represent a wide range of professional and academic disciplines, are competitively selected to join the Fulbright Specialist Roster based on their knowledge, skill sets, and ability to make a significant contribution to projects overseas. Those individuals that have been approved to join the Fulbright Specialist Roster are then eligible to be matched with approved projects designed by foreign host institutions from over 150 countries and other areas. Once abroad, Specialists partner with their host institution to conduct project activities in support of the host institution’s priorities and goals. In partnership with more than 140 countries worldwide, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers unparalleled opportunities in all academic disciplines to passionate and accomplished graduating college seniors, graduate students, and Young Professional from all backgrounds. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides funding for research, creative projects, graduate study and English teaching opportunities to recent graduates and graduate students. The US-UK Fulbright Commission offers special Summer Institutes for U.S. Citizens to come to the UK.  These summer programmes provide the opportunity for US undergraduates (aged over 18), with at least two years of undergraduate study left to complete, to come to the UK on a three, four, five or six week academic and cultural summer programme. Participants in these programs will get the opportunity to experience an exciting academic program at a highly regarded UK University, explore the culture, heritage and history of the UK and develop their academic ability by improving presentation, research and communication skills. The Summer Institutes will cover the majority of participant costs. This includes round-trip airfare from the US to the UK, tuition and fees at the host university/institution, accommodation and meals and in some cases a small daily allowance. Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) expands access to study abroad by raising awareness of its benefits to the individual and value to the collective, and by granting scholarships of up to $10,000. Applicants from groups underrepresented in study abroad and those destined for non-traditional locations are given preference, in an effort to make the demographics of U.S. undergraduates studying abroad reflect the rich diversity of the U.S. population. FEA administers 30+ scholarships - you only have to submit one application to FEA to be considered for all of their available scholarships. The Gates Cambridge Scholarship programme was established in October 2000 by a donation of US$210m from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to the University of Cambridge; this is the largest ever single donation to a UK university. The first class of scholars came into residence in October 2001. Each year Gates Cambridge offers 80 full-cost scholarships to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. Approximately two-thirds of these awards will be offered to PhD students, with approximately 25 awards available in the US round and 55 available in the International round. The Gates Cambridge mission is to build a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others. It aims to achieve this mission by selecting outstanding scholars, providing them with financial and non-financial support at one of the world’s leading universities and facilitating community building at and beyond Cambridge. The George J. Mitchell Scholarship Program is a national, competitive scholarship sponsored by the US-Ireland Alliance. The George J. Mitchell Scholarship Program, named to honor former US Senator George Mitchell's pivotal contribution to the Northern Ireland peace process, is designed to introduce and connect generations of future American leaders to the island of Ireland, while recognizing and fostering intellectual achievement, leadership, and a commitment to community and public service. Up to twelve Mitchell Scholars between the ages of 18 and 30 are chosen annually for one academic year of postgraduate study in any discipline offered by institutions of higher learning in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Applicants are judged on three criteria: Scholarship, leadership, and a sustained commitment to community and public service. The Mitchell Scholarship Program provides tuition, accommodation, and a stipend for living expenses and travel. The scholarship covers September through May of an academic year.
