Materials Science Lab

Understanding the relationship between microstructure and material properties is the core work of the lab, including how changes in manufacturing change the microstructure and performance of a component. Root cause failure analyses and physics of failure models are incorporated to determine the effect of material aging on component performance and life. Failure modes such as corrosion, wear and fatigue are analyzed and the information from these studies are used to determine restoration methods for end-of-life components or to produce components with improved reliability and durability.
