Health-Monitoring System for Heavy Duty Vehicles

GIS researchers developed vehicle-health monitoring technologies and system architectures that are currently deployed by the U.S. military. This also led to Vnomics Corp., a company whose product monitors driver safety and fuel efficiency for long-haul trucks.
Partners: U.S. Marine Corps and the Office of Naval Research (ONR)

Alternative Fuels for Existing Vehicles

GIS researchers investigated means for increasing near-term use of two forms of biofuel—bio-diesel and ethanol-based flex fuel (E85)—as drop-in fuels for use in existing transportation fleets.
Partners: U.S. Department of Transportation and Monroe County (New York State)

Smart Systems for Fleet Optimization

GIS researchers analyzed the state of a regional healthcare network’s transport fleet to identify options for improving overall efficiency through the application of commercially available fleet-management and analytics tools.
Partners: New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and Rochester Regional Health

Solid Oxide Fuel Cell as Mobile Power Source

GIS researchers studied solid oxide fuel-cell technology powered by conventional fuels as a means for military vehicles to maintain communications and intel capability while operating in quiet (engine-off) mode.
Partners: Delphi Technologies (BorgWarner Inc.) and the Office of Naval Research (ONR)
