RIT to host Animation Show of Shows Oct. 14

Collection features award-winning short films from leading festivals around the world

RIT is hosting an Oct. 14 screening of the best in animated short films from festivals around the world in Booth Hall.

Rochester Institute of Technology is hosting an upcoming screening of the best contemporary animated short films from the world’s most renowned festivals.

The 16th Annual Animation Show of Shows will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, in Booth Hall’s Webb Auditorium (room 1350). Organizers are hoping to attract a larger audience to the traditional RIT event this year by moving it to a larger venue. Free and open to the public, the show is sponsored by RIT’s School of Film and Animation and School of Design in the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences.

The Animation Show of Shows, curated by Acme Filmworks founder Ron Diamond since 1998, features animated shorts from leading film festivals that have been presented at major animation studios to inspire animators and directors. Diamond created the show as a way to bring the year’s best shorts to industry professionals who might not otherwise see them.

Screenings occurred recently at major studios such as DreamWorks, Pixar, Skywalker Ranch and Disney. The shorts include Academy Award winners, as well as nominees, and other films that have won prizes at Cannes, Annecy, Zagreb, Ottawa and Berlin. Techniques range from hand-drawn, paint on glass and stop-motion to the latest computer-generated imagery.
