The game design and development minor is intended for students studying in a technical field who want to combine their knowledge and skill in software development with the media-centric approach to application design that is exemplified in the professional games and simulation industries. The minor defines a series of courses that build upon students’ existing knowledge in computing, physics, and mathematics to explore the design principles of games and interactive worlds through the creation of prototypes and software projects. This minor is closed to students majoring in game design and development.

Quarter Curriculum - For Reference Only
Effective fall 2013, RIT converted its academic calendar from quarters to semesters. The following content has been made available as reference only. Currently matriculated students who began their academic programs in quarters should consult their academic adviser for guidance and course selection.
The game design and development minor is intended for students in information technology, computer science, software engineering, new media interactive development, computer engineering, or other computing majors. The minor, which consists of five courses selected from the core programming and the game design sequences of the BS program in game design and development, requires a set of prerequisites in programming, Web and multimedia development, physics, and discrete mathematics. Students should meet with their academic adviser to discuss how the courses in the minor (and any prerequisites) fit into their major.
