Gift of 177-acre estate will expand research, educational offerings in agriculture and sciences

A unique real estate gift has provided RIT a new ecosystem for future life sciences research and growth in new fields. Portions of the Tait Preserve have been marked for new agricultural research and education to develop farming practices that benefit both the land and community.

“Exclusive and protected access to the Tait Preserve’s is particularly valuable, as it will give access of the available field sites to our faculty and students to work on research projects in a number of areas,” stated Sophia Maggelakis, dean of RIT’s College of Science.

William Clark, former President and CEO of the Urban League of Rochester, was named the 2019-20 Frederick H. Minett Professor. The Minett Professorship brings Rochester-area multicultural professionals to campus to share their expertise with students, faculty and staff for one academic year.
