This course is an introduction to digital photography. Through assignments and projects, students will become familiar with the operation of a DSLR camera, while exploring the basic principles of lighting, depth of field, blur/stop motion, and accurate exposure. Lectures will address photographic aesthetics, contemporary and historical practices, and their applications. Students will learn to critique work through participation in discussions of photographic assignments. Students will have access to camera equipment through the Photo Cage and may also use their own digital SLR cameras. **Fee: A course fee applied via student account**

Photography is in a perpetual state of flux due to constant changes in practices and technology. Studio Topics in Fine Art Photography will provide students with the opportunity to explore select topics through photography and image making. The content taught in this course will change frequently and the course may be repeated for credit, however each “topic” may be taken for credit only once.

This workshop will allow students to participate in small classes discussing and experimenting with various media, techniques, and practices in the studio. Topics may include experimentation with specialized technology, analog historical processes, installation, or refining a body of work in print, moving image, or book form. The content of the workshop will vary depending on the instructor. This course can be taken multiple times, but individual topics must be different.
