This course will concentrate on the character creation process. Students will learn to understand character construction and utilize production techniques to classify characters employing body language, expression, and costume as vehicles for storytelling. Students will examine how character design plays a vital role in industries such as advertising, animation, gaming, and publishing, where strong, memorable characters are central to storytelling and audience connection.

This course will provide an in-depth anatomical approach to drawing the figure. Students will practice drawing human anatomy including body and head postures, facial expressions, and hand gestures. Students will learn anatomical proportioning while drawing from observation from models to convey emotions such as anger, sadness, fear, joy, wonder, etc. Students will also learn to use photographic support references when drawing the figure. By the conclusion of the semester students will be able to have intermediate to advanced level anatomical drawing skills. **Fee: A course fee applied via student account**

This course will serve as an introduction to the history and creation of zines and other DIY publications. Course content will include an overview of the zine in publishing history and the associated cultural, political, and social movements motivating its production. In the studio, students will explore those materials and processes that were used in the development of the historic zine. This will serve as a complement to the research and writing which is fundamental to the development of the zine. **Fee: A materials fee is required for this course, and an additional course fee applied via student account**
