Michael Rodriguez’ popcorn packaging design was the top vote getter among movie goers at the Little Theatre on Friday evening.

A fourth-year graphic design student received the most votes from Little Theatre film watchers for his popcorn packaging design. Michael Rodriguez was among the graphic design and industrial design students whose creations were on display Friday evening. Prior to showtime, people were invited to cast ballots. Rodriguez, who says the Little is one of his favorite places to go in Rochester, incorporated the theatre’s marquee in his design.

“Audience feedback is crucial to the designer,” says Rodriquez. “We are designing for the consumer so their reaction is really what counts. Most of the people coming to the movies appeared to have the same connection that I have to the Little. When they saw the ‘marquee’ of boxes built from the simple box, they appeared to feel a sort of pride in Rochester.”

Rodriguez won a student membership to the Little Theatre. Laura Woodruff took second place and Casey Moosman finished third. Woodruff and Moosman are also graphic design majors. The project was for the Packaging Design course co-taught by Lorrie Frear, graphic design professor, and David Morgan, industrial design professor.
