Irene Pfizenmaier Award for Academic Excellence in Graphic Expression &

Award for Academic Excellence in Teaching

College of Art and Design at RIT

Established in 2006 by RIT Trustee Wolfgang Pfizenmaier in memory of his late wife, Irene, this award is unique in that it is one of only two awards on our campus that acknowledges academic excellence in a student, and allows the student to recognizes a faculty member for their mentorship and  contribution to the selected student’s professional development.

The Pfizenmaier Award is presented in the spirit of undergraduate academic excellence with a focus on creativity and innovative use of new technology in graphic expression, and will be awarded to a student who began his or her studies as a freshman at RIT and is now in his or her last year of undergraduate study (eligible for graduation in May 2010) from across the six (6) schools that comprise the College of Art and Design at RIT.

Recipients are selected on the basis of attaining a 3.4 GPA or higher along with a one-page letter of nomination from a tenure-track faculty member, tenured faculty member, or department chair.  Finalists will be recommended by an academic committee, and the award will be approved and conferred by the Dean of the College.

A second component of this Pfizenmaier Award allows the student recipient to select a faculty member to share in the Pfizenmaier Award for Academic Excellence in Teaching. The faculty member will receive a cash award for his or her professional use - to purchase equipment, attend conferences or other professional development activities as approved by his or her department chair.
