Bio
Richard DeMartino is a Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Saunders College of Business. His research centers on technology commercialization, breakthrough innovation, and entrepreneurial motivation, with publications in the Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Product and Innovation Management, Journal of Management, and others.
For nearly two decades, Richard founded, built, and directed RIT's Albert J. Simone Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship — growing it into a nationally recognized, university-wide innovation center designated as an NSF I-Corps University Site and as a founding partner in the NSF I-Corps Node. He has raised over $8 million in endowments, grants, and program funding in support of RIT's innovation and entrepreneurship programs and has served as Principal Investigator on more than $1 million in sponsored research.
More recently, Richard has turned his research interests to the challenges facing higher education: the structural forces that suppress market innovation and prevent alternative credentials from reaching the students who need them most. This interdisciplinary work sits at the intersection of market design, entrepreneurship theory, and education policy — applying the tools of business research to one of America's most consequential and resistant-to-change industries.
He holds a Ph.D. in Political Economy from the University of Virginia. Before entering academia, he worked as a foreign currency, bond, and risk trader.
