Off-Campus and Commuter Services

At RIT, we understand that the college experience is unique for every student, especially for those who commute to campus.

Campus Life is dedicated to supporting our first-year commuter students in navigating this journey. As you start at RIT as a commuter student, we’re here to ensure you feel connected, supported, and empowered.

Our program is designed to support first-year commuter students through targeted engagement opportunities on campus. Our events will enhance your college experience through connections and community. Whether it is a need for a locker to use while you are on campus, promoting commuter involvement through our events, or providing a community connection, our organization prides itself in supporting and growing the commuter community at RIT.

Join us in creating a vibrant and inclusive community where every student can thrive, no matter where they live. Welcome to your home away from home at RIT!

Who are commuter students?

RIT defines a commuter student as any student living at “home” (generally with a family member, parent, or guardian). You are considered an off-campus student if you are not residing in RIT-owned housing but live in the surrounding Rochester community. For example, if you live at places like Park Point, Province, The Hill, Apex, or The Lodge, you are considered an off-campus student.

Commuter Welcome

Our Commuter Welcome during RIT Orientation is designed specifically for first-year and transfer students who will be commuting to campus. This program offers a comprehensive introduction to the resources available for commuter students, helping you navigate your new environment with ease.

Join us to meet fellow commuter students, build connections, and discover how to stay actively engaged in campus life. From learning about commuter-specific support services to participating in events designed just for you, the Commuter Welcome program ensures that you feel at home and ready to thrive at RIT. Welcome to a vibrant community where every commuter student is valued and supported!

Commuter Orientation is on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.
