When Carla Stebbins redesigned the health systems management MS degree, she included a culminating travel course in Sweden for her students to observe a different approach to health care. Stebbins, program director, built the online hybrid program to educate health care leaders to navigate a quickly changing field and widen their perspective. Even though COVID-19 canceled the trip, Stebbins found a solution

This past weekend we continued to experience a rise of COVID-19. Rates of infection have increased to the point where we must elevate our COVID Alert Level to Orange. This will prompt changes in the way we operate for the remainder of the semester.

RIT classes for spring semester will begin Jan. 25. The semester will also include three “recharge” days and one reading day prior to final exams. The last day of classes for spring semester will be Wednesday, May 5, with final exams running May 7-13. Commencement is scheduled for May 14-15.

Over the past several days, RIT has been tracking some connected cases of COVID-19 stemming from a student who traveled out of the Finger Lakes region. This has resulted in a slight uptick in positive cases on campus, and the campus alert level has moved to Yellow.

Professor Rajendra Raj and Associate Professor Xumin Liu have received a National Science Foundation award to develop a hands-on data science course for non-computing majors. The course will first be offered at RIT and then across the country, in an effort to promote computing for all.

Caroline Easton, a professor in Biomedical Sciences in the College of Health Sciences and Technology, received $1M in funding from DHHS: Health Resources & Services Administration to develop and provide addiction therapy for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) in rural counties.

Yong “Tai” Wang currently is dean and endowed chair professor of the Drs. Lee Roy and Lucy Mathis College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Texas at Tyler, a role he has held since 2014. He was chosen for the RIT dean following a national search, and will begin his new leadership role in January.
