RIT again ranked among world’s best design schools

Ranker touts School of Design in classifying CIAS program 10th globally

RIT’s School of Design is ranked 10th among the 30 best design schools in the world in a new ranking conducted by Ranker, a leading digital-media company.

Rochester Institute of Technology’s School of Design in the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences (CIAS) is ranked 10th among the 30 best design schools in the world in a new ranking conducted by a leading digital-media company.

Ranker, which crowdsources opinion-based rankings over the Internet, highlights the best design programs in the world and some of the top schools to study design. The ranking highlights the growing role design schools are playing in producing creative designers to the labor force.

“This new ranking is yet another indication of the hard work and investment of the superb design faculty, students, staff and administrative team at RIT and CIAS,” said Lorraine Justice, the college’s dean. “There is more great work to come.”

Peter Byrne, a professor and administrative chair of the School of Design, noted that “the design field is an important driver for innovative economic growth in our society.”

“This ranking is a further testament to the innovation and exceptional design education that takes place at RIT within the School of Design,” Byrne said. “Acknowledgement of the success of our school with this ranking is a great achievement and wonderful news for our students, faculty, staff and alumni.”

The recognition by Ranker marks the latest honor for RIT’s School of Design, which has been named one of the top 10 design schools in the country by Bloomberg Businessweek and also highly ranked in recent years by U.S. News & World Report and DesignIntelligence.

RIT’s School of Design offers internationally recognized degree programs in graphic design, interior design, industrial design, new media design, 3-D digital graphics and computer graphics design. Computer skills, design perspectives, career preparation and exposure to the related areas of publishing, photography, engineering and information technology are integrated into the curriculum.

The School of Design—one of six schools within CIAS—also is widely recognized for the Cary Graphic Arts Collection, the Graphic Design Archive and the Vignelli Center for Design Studies. CIAS is renowned for producing some of the most prepared, career-oriented designers in the workforce. Programs feature small class sizes, working professionals as professors and top-of-the-line technology. The college’s quirky blend of technical and art-oriented students helps to mold innovative thinkers and creatives.

Ranker, headquartered in Los Angeles, was founded in 2009 and is a Quantcast Top 100 site that attracts more than 20 million monthly unique visitors, according to the company specializing in audience measurement.
