University Commons is a fully furnished apartment with four single bedrooms inside of each unit. Doors to the bedrooms lock from the inside and are accessible via a room key. University Commons has 24/7 card swipe access and blue light emergency phones.
We advise waiting until your arrival to determine the dimensions of the room and the furniture. Students who are unsure about whether an item will fit in their new space are advised to move-in first and then add additional items.
We are not able to accommodate tours of the upperclassmen apartments.

Our mattresses have a vinyl covering for health and sanitary reasons and have a firm and plush side. Due to safety requirements, only RIT mattresses can be used. We recommend that you bring a cotton mattress cover to place over the vinyl covering. Mattresses in all University Commons rooms are full sized.
All rooms have an overhead light, but we suggest that you bring your own lamps. Torchier or any style lamp(s) that use a halogen bulb 300 watts or more are prohibited. Torchier style lamps that use a compact florescent or incandescent bulb are permitted.

If you desire a phone line to be activated in your student room, contact the ITS Service Desk at 585-475-5000 or help.rit.edu to request a line be activated. There will be no charge for the activation and line. You will, however, need to bring your own telephone. On-campus and local calling will be available with an active phone line, but long-distance calls require a calling card.

Room care and cleanliness of common areas (bathroom, kitchen, living room, etc.) are the responsibility of the students who share the space—one reason we ask students about their cleaning preferences. Rooms must be kept clean for health and safety reasons. Vacuum cleaners may be obtained from Residence Life.
