Bio

Dr Leandrit Mehmeti is the Associate Dean and Assistant Professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Kosovo (RITK). Prior to joining RITK, he held academic positions at the University of South Australia and served as Head of the Diploma of Arts Department at the South Australian Institute of Business and Technology. 

Dr Mehmeti earned his Master's and Ph.D. from the University of South Australia. He has been a member of the Australian Political Science Association (APSA) since 2010; The Association for Nationalities Studies (ASN) since 2013; and The Society of Albanian Studies (SAS) since 2015. 

At the RITK Dr. Mehmeti teaches courses in Political Science, Communication, and Writing and also supervises Capstone projects. His research interests include security studies, democratisation, post-conflict transition, governance, humanitarian aid and intervention and European Union integration perspectives and policies. He has published on topics such as democratisation, security and EU integration perspectives and has presented his research at academic conferences in Australia, the United States, Asia and Europe. 

Dr. Mehmeti also serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Peace, Conflict and Security Studies, where he leads the publication of peer-reviewed research on global peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and security policy.

This course introduces students to current best practices in written and visual technical communication including writing effective email, short and long technical reports and presentations, developing instructional material, and learning the principles and practices of ethical technical communication. Course activities focus on engineering and scientific technical documents.
HIST-324

Oral history collects memories and personal commentaries of historical significance through recorded interviews. There are few opportunities for historical research that are more satisfying or more challenging than oral history. In this class, we will learn about oral history methods, techniques, and ethics. We will read, listen to, and watch some of the finest examples of the genre. Then we will go out and add to the world's understanding of its past by conducting oral histories of our own. For their final project in this course, students will work in teams to produce a podcast based on their own interview(s).
POLS-445

This course examines the causes, methods, and responses of non-state groups attempting to establish new political orders. The combined use of violence with the tactic of terror distinguishes these groups from others seeking political change. Special attention will be given to national and international efforts attempting to resolve such conflicts.

This course guides the student through preparation of the Capstone Proposal that is required for the applied final course of his/her MS in professional studies degree - the Capstone Project. Student will determine a Capstone Project concept, and articulate the methods for implementing the Capstone Project. The course concludes with a paper describing the Capstone Project, including background and description, methodology, anticipated outcomes, and probable Capstone Adviser. Student will meet regularly with the course facilitator. Upon successful completion of this course, student will be registered for the Capstone Project. (Pre-requisites: PROF-705 and core coursework; course restricted to MS in professional studies students)

Sociology is the study of the social world and socialization processes. Sociologists study the broader picture of how societies are structured and organized through a macro-sociological analysis as well as how individuals create their own social reality symbolically through their interactions with others in a micro-sociological analysis. Students in this course will learn the fundamentals of each approach and come away with a sociological framework which they can critically apply to their own lives.

An interdisciplinary approach to the generation and evaluation of ideas and solutions. Includes analysis of the conditions limiting creativity and the development of a toolkit of strategies and techniques for discovering, inventing and assessing new, unique and useful ideas, applications and solutions. Applicable to a range of life and work situations, from complex environmental concerns to competitive business challenges to family disputes.

A capstone class for students in the Individualized Program bachelor of science degree program. Course provides students an opportunity to reflect upon and enhance the many aspects of their individualized educational programs and focus on future goals. Senior status is required.
