Freshmen Students Scholarships

The Scholarship Committee, which is composed of members of the RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) Faculty, Staff and Students, will make the selection of scholarship recipients. Scholarships will be awarded to applicants who are, based on the evaluation of the Committee, most worthy of an award on the basis of scholastic record, future promise and financial need.

Awards for the Board of Trustees Regional Scholarship Program will be granted to distinguished candidates from Kosovo’s seven main administrative regions. The division is based under the principle of equality between the regions, while candidates will compete for scholarships with their peers from the same region. Please check the region list here.

Awards will be distributed on the basis of matrix selection criteria that includes: TOEFL and the Institutional Math Exam scores, high school grade point average, and involvement in extracurricular activities.  Preference may be given to students supplying SAT or ACT scores and to those with financial need.

Continuation of Scholarship - Students awarded full a scholarship for their freshmen year will be eligible for continuation at half the amount (50 percent) for three additional years, provided they remain full-time students and maintain an overall RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) grade point average of at least 3.80.  

Awards of the Presidents Partial Scholarships Program will be based on merit (TOEFL and the Institutional Math Exam scores, SAT, high school grade point average, involvement in extracurricular activities, or other qualifiers set by the scholarship committee) and financial need.

Continuation of Scholarship - Students awarded with partial scholarships are eligible to apply for continuing student scholarships offered through the CURRENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K). This program awards students taking courses during their 2nd, 3rd and 4th academic year at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K). 

Application Deadline - The applications are received on rolling basis and awards are granted in first-come/first-serve model until the depletion of the scholarship fund. Early applications are highly recommended.

Awards for the Campus Diversity Scholarship Program will be granted to distinguished candidates from Kosovo and neighboring countries that contribute to the enrichment of student life through their involvement in on-campus activities, in the classroom and through their participation in the Kosovo community.

Awards will be distributed on the basis of matrix-selection criteria that include: Admission Exams (TOEFL and Mathematics, or SAT/ACT), diverse ethnic background that is currently underrepresented in campus, member of a socially excluded group in the society, etc. The Campus Diversity Scholarship Program gives preference to those who are:

  • from neighboring countries: Albania, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Turkey, Bulgaria and Greece
  • from Kosovo marginalized groups, such as: ethnic minorities, people with disabilities and the LGBTI community.

Continuation of Scholarship - Students awarded with partial scholarships are eligible to apply for continuing student scholarships offered through the CURRENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K). This program awards students taking courses during their second, third, and fourth academic year at RIT Kosovo.

Application Deadline - The application deadline for campus scholarship program is May 30, 2022.  

Awards for the Named Scholarship Program will be granted to distinguished candidates that meet academic standards of RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) and demonstrate financial aid need.

The following Named Scholarships will be awarded to freshmen students for academic year 2022/2023:

  • US KDOM Scholarship – Preference is given to students from Kosovo rural areas of Drenica, Dukagjin, Pashtrik, Shala and Llap.
     
  • Wesley K. Clark Scholarship – Awarded on the basis of need and merit, with a special attention to minority applicants and applicants from rural areas.
     
  • Cami Family Scholarship – Preference is given to students from the region of Dibra, Macedonia.
     
  • Lukaj Family Foundation Scholarship – Preference is given to students from the region of Ulqin, Montenegro.
     
  • Ralitsa and Elvin Guri Scholarship – scholarship supporting Freshmen year of studies. Preference is given to students of Albanian descent.
     
  • Shita Family Scholarship - in memory of Vehap Shita – a full-undergraduate scholarship (4 years of study) awarded for students starting in Fall 2020 with preference given to students from the region of Gjakova.
     
  • Zagragja Family Scholarship – This scholarship will cover two 70% four-year scholarships which will be awarded based on financial need after the merit of acceptance has been established.

  • ELKOS Group Scholarship – 1 full scholarship, 1 partial scholarship (already awarded)

These scholarships can be used to cover tuition expenses only, and are applicable for RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) home campus studies.

The Biberaj Family Scholarship is made possible through the generous donation pledge of $1.16 mil by The Biberaj Foundation Inc. and participation of RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) and American University in Kosovo Foundation Inc. to provide 40 full undergraduate scholarship awards for freshmen students with strong academic records and demonstrating financial need.

Eligibility

The scholarship application is open to anyone who meets the following requirements:        

  • Is of an Albanian descent from one of the following regions: rural parts of Kosova, Tropoja, Plava, Gucia, Presheva, Tetova, and Shkup, or is from one of the minority groups of Kosova.
  • Completes the freshman admission requirements at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) – see: Enrollment Information
  • Able to demonstrate an outstanding academic record and achievements.
  • Have completed a High School Degree by the time of scholarship award.
  • Been active in extra-curricular activities.
  • Able to demonstrate financial need.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English and able to demonstrate strong mathematical skills (The application, selection process, and interview are all conducted in English.

    Preference will be given to women and to those pursuing studies in STEM and Journalism Concentrations

As requirements of the Biberaj Family Scholarship, each student will spend one month each summer between each academic year, working to support community service in their home region, and each student will be required to complete a Capstone project by the end of their fourth year. Additionally, each student will spend one academic semester studying in the U.S. To maintain his or her scholarship, each student will need to maintain a superior grade point average.

After the first successful year at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) all students including the ones awarded with excellent, named, hometown and regional scholarships may apply for:

Students must apply each year for the RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) Student Scholarship award. If no application is received then the student will receive no scholarship at all.

Three scholarships, each being worth EUR 2,200, will be awarded to one student from each of Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years, based on (a) academic merit and (b) outstanding extracurricular or community engagement.

Eligibility

Students applying must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Be a full time student at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K)
  • Be at least a sophomore student with academic credits earned at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K)
  • GPA of 3.6 or higher
  • No more than one withdrawal or retake from classes
  • Having demonstrated community involvement:
    • Through RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) student clubs
    • Representing RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) in different events
    • Involved in RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) student government projects.

Three scholarships, each worth EUR 3,800, will be awarded to one student from Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years, based on merit.

Eligibility

Students applying must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Be a full time student at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K)
  • Be at least a sophomore student with academic credits earned at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K)
  • GPA of 3.7 or higher
  • Nominated by (a) Faculty instructing in the specific generation and (b) Student Government
  • No withdrawal or retake from classes
  • Having demonstrated leadership potential through:
    • Volunteer work with RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) student clubs
    • Representing RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) in different events

One full scholarship will be awarded to the single most outstanding student.

Eligibility

Students applying must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Be a full time student at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K)
  • Be at least a sophomore student with academic credits earned at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K)
  • GPA of 3.85 or higher
  • No withdrawal or retake from classes
  • Nominated by (a) Faculty Unit Heads and (b) Student Government
  • Submit a motivational essay
  • Having demonstrated leadership potential through:
    • Academic Research Projects
    • Initiatives in and outside school
    • More than 50 hours of volunteer work with RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) student clubs
    • Representing RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) in conferences, debates or student projects

RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) is committed to financially supporting students who show satisfactory academic results but come from very constrained financial backgrounds. Students applying for this scholarship need to prove to the selection committee that they need this support by providing documentary supporting evidence and meeting each of the following requirements:

Eligibility

Students applying must fulfill the following criteria:

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Proof of their financial sources
    • Family tax declaration and pension fund declaration
    • Family tax declaration and pension fund declaration
    • Bank and loan statements from Kosovo Central Bank
    • Other income declaration such as rent but not limited to
    • Real estate and other valuable assets declaration
    • Write a 750 word statement justifying their application for financial support.

The RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) Financial Office is responsible for financial matters of RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) such as those responsibilities that directly affect students including tuition fees and cash collection. In addition to collecting and posting payments on student’s accounts, the Financial Office oversees installment payment plans, the collection of past due tuition, and processing refunds from overpayments.

Applying for a Scholarship which is for FULL TIME students only does not guarantee eligibility for a scholarship award nor exempt you from making tuition payments by the due dates. If you have not received a scholarship award notification by the due date, you must make other payment arrangements. If you subsequently receive a scholarship, the proper adjustments will be made.

 If you receive any type of award, your total award will be divided and applied in two parts based on the RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) semester system.

Undergraduate Student Loans

RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) has agreement with TEB, NLB and Procredit Bank, while in other banks students may apply for loans according to the particular bank’s loan terms and conditions.

  • Administrative fee on the salary (this form is provided by the bank offices and has to be signed by an employee);

  • Loan Maturity: 12 months
  • Loan Administration Fee: 4.00% from which 2.00% will be covered by RIT Kosovo and 2.00% will be covered by a student.

  • Administrative fee on the salary (this form is provided by the bank offices and has to be signed by an employee);
  • Identification document;
  • Identification document of co-debtor;
  • RIT Kosovo tuition invoice and enrolment confirmation with RIT Kosovo;

RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) students have an option to apply for Long Term Low Interest Rate Loan with NLB Prishtina for up to 7 years to finance their studies with grace period up to 24 months.  RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) will cover 50% of the total interest while students have to pay principal and 50% of interest.

  • Interest rate: 4 % : out of which 2.00% will be covered by RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) and 2.00% will be covered by the student
  • Loan Maturity: up to 7 years
  • Grace period: up to 2 years

How does a grace period loan work?

During student’s first two years of study, they will only pay a fraction of interest half to be covered by RIT Kosovo (A.U.K). Student’s only start paying the principal of the loan from the third year for the following maximum of five years.

Terms and conditions for Student’s Long Term Bank Loan

RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) is willing to pay 50% of the total interest while students have to pay principal and 50% of interest.

In case if a student discontinues studies with the RIT Kosovo (A.U.K), the remaining tuition amount will be reimbursed, however the total of interest paid by RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) will be charged to the students account.

NOTE: Early bird registration is not available for payment agreements such as student’s short-term and long-term loans.
