Graphic Designer

Formal position title. Graphic Designer

Reports To: The Graphic Designer will report to Webmaster and Social Media Administrator.

Job Overview: 

The Graphic Designer is responsible for the creation of a wide variety of print and electronic publications and other items to communicate RITK’s image and messages to on and off-campus constituencies. Responsibilities include the conceptualization, design and production supervision of logos, promotional items, special-event material, brochures and advertising. A key part of this role is the development of good working relationships with offices and departments across campus and at the RITK’s extension centers. The Graphic Designer reports to the Webmaster & Social Media Administrator and works with additional personnel, including student workers, in the Office of RITK’s Marketing & Communications. This position requires creativity, critical thinking skills, and the ability to work independently.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Conceptualize, plan, design and produce print, online and multimedia projects consistent with the RITK’s graphic identity standards and guidelines
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop multiple design concepts for consideration as needed
  • Work with vendors to obtain cost estimates for projects within quality specifications, financial constraints and time schedule for projects
  • Oversee the production of printed material, working with on-campus and off-campus print vendors
  • Assist Webmaster & Social Media Administrator on maintaining the RITK’s website with updated information, photos, videos and web marketing campaigns
  • Research design and technologies trends to help ensure the RITK’s publications, website and social media are up to date and effective in reaching target audiences
  • Increase awareness of and positive participation in the RITK’s social media platforms
  • Coordinate with other departments and offices to address needs related to publications, the website, specialty items and graphic design
  • Maintain positive working relationships with faculty, staff, students and other constituencies
  • Work efficiently and professionally in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Maintain image resource files
  • Update all Templates of Communication and printed internal and external documents.

Minimum requirements:

Only applicants meeting the minimum qualifications below will be considered. The requirements that follow are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor degree in a directly related field of study from an accredited university. Masters’ degree preferred, with proper credentials to teach RITK’s courses periodically, if requested
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of design/layout principles
  • Good working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator) for Mac and Microsoft Publisher for PC; Knowledge of related media design programs
  • At least three years of experience is required
