Celebrating a Founding Visionary: Louis Sell

RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) and the American University in Kosovo Foundation (AUKF) proudly recognize Louis D. Sell, our co - founder, longest-serving Board member, and a lifelong advocate for top quality American-style higher education in Kosovo.

From the day RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) opened its doors in 2003, Louis’ vision and determination have helped guide almost every step forward. As Executive Director of the AUKF, he played a central role in securing the early support needed to transform our campus and built strong relationships with both the Municipality of Prishtina and the central institutions of Kosova-laying the foundation for long-term success.

Over nearly two decades of distinguished service, Louis served our community in numerous leadership roles - including as Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Chair of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee, a founder of the summer program on Peace and Conflict Studies, and active member of the Finance, and Nominations & Governance Committees. His thoughtful guidance, strategic foresight, and constant support and dedication have had a lasting mark on our growth, academic excellence, and international reputation.

Beyond RIT Kosovo (A.U.K), Louis has dedicated his life to public service. A distinguished U.S. Foreign Service Officer, he contributed to historic efforts such as the Dayton Peace Accords, and is widely respected as a scholar and author. His expertise and dedication to peace, diplomacy, and education has enriched not only our institution, but the wider Kosovo community.

“Louis has been much more than a co-founder, he has been a bridge-builder, a trusted source of wisdom, and a tireless advocate for our mission,” said Yll Zagragja, Interim Board Chair. “His impact will continue to be felt for generations to come.”

On behalf of the entire RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) community, we extend our deepest gratitude to Louis D. Sell for his extraordinary service, and wish him continued success, fulfillment, and involvement in the causes he deeply believes in. His legacy will always be a part of our story.
