Our Alumna’s Academic Pathway in Agricultural Economics

Albulena Basha (BS ’15) is currently pursuing a PhD degree in the field of agricultural economics at Iowa State University’s Department of Economics, which is ranked as the world’s third-best university agricultural economics department.

At Iowa State University, she serves not only as a Graduate Instructor who teaches the introductory principles of microeconomics course but also as a Graduate Research Assistant who is investigating the impacts of time allocation decisions within agricultural households, and how shocks that prompt women to reallocate more time towards unpaid activities, such as domestic chores, affect the household’s farm production and welfare.

Albulena graduated with two master’s degrees from Iowa State University in 2017. She earned one master’s degree in economics and another in sustainable agriculture. Her master’s studies were funded by the Kosovo American Education Fund Fellowship – one of Kosovo’s most competitive graduate-level fellowships. Due to her outstanding academic performance during her master’s studies, she was inducted into two honor societies. In addition, she was awarded one university-level and one international teaching award.

Upon her return to Kosovo, Ms. Basha worked for two years on an agricultural development project at the GIZ Office in Kosovo before resuming her studies in the United States in pursuit of a PhD degree in Agricultural Economics.

Reflecting on her journey, Albulena acknowledges the pivotal role that RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) played in preparing her for her future success. The institution provided her with a solid academic foundation and equipped her with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in her graduate-level academic pursuits.
