Undergraduate Research Excellence at RIT Kosovo: Smart Attendance System Using Face Recognition Accepted at CSMAI 2026

Etna Nura, student from the CIT (BS) program at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K.), currently a global student at the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, USA has successfully completed an innovative research project titled “Face Recognition Based Smart Attendance System Using Histogram Method and Real-Time Camera.” The research was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Debabrata Samanta and focuses on improving efficiency and accuracy in attendance management systems using advanced face recognition techniques. The system addresses common challenges in traditional attendance methods, such as time consumption, manual errors, and proxy attendance. This work highlights the growing importance of intelligent systems in academic environments, offering a practical and scalable solution that replaces outdated manual processes and improves reliability over conventional biometric methods.

The research has been accepted for publication in the proceedings of the International Conference on Complex System Modelling and Artificial Intelligence (CSMAI 2026), to be published by Springer Nature and indexed in Scopus, marking a significant academic achievement.
