RIT photography professor documents Greenland’s changing landscape

Contemporary Greenland is the subject of a new collection of photographs and essays by RIT photography professor Denis Defibaugh, who spent more than a year on the island. North by Nuuk: Greenland after Rockwell Kent, published by RIT Press, documents scenes from daily life and from nature, such as an Inuit hunter and his sled dogs, stark landscapes and portraits of the people who live in remote communities.

‘Coming of Age’ describes how a signature program shaped RIT’s future

A new book published by RIT Press documents RIT’s trajectory from a teaching institute to a research university with an expanding portfolio of doctoral programs. Coming of Age: The Center for Imaging Science at Rochester Institute of Technology describes the university-wide impact of the center and first Ph.D. program.

Master stone carver John Everett Benson awarded Goudy Award

John Everett “Fud” Benson, a master stone carver, calligrapher and type designer, is the 2019 recipient of the Frederic W. Goudy Award for Excellence in Typography, given to an outstanding practitioner in type design and related fields. Presented by the Cary Graphic Arts Collection, the award is dedicated to the continued progress of the printing field in the spirit of the great printers of the past.

Exhibit celebrates 50th anniversary of Cary Graphic Arts Collection at RIT

RIT is celebrating the 50th year anniversary of its internationally renowned collection of books and artifacts dedicated to the history of the printed word. The Cary Graphic Arts Collection is hosting a retrospective exhibition, “The Founding Collection and Beyond,” displaying pieces from the library that belonged to printer Melbert B. Cary Jr. and later acquisitions that have shaped the collection since its inception in 1969.

Grab your needles, yarn or thread, and get crafting for democracy in a community-wide tribute to Rochester’s legacy of social activism with a contemporary twist. Fiber artists are needed to contribute to a yarn installation celebrating the Rochester Ladies Anti-Slavery Sewing Society at a historic site on Corinthian Street.
