Quang “Neo” Bui on Life and Work in Finland

Quang “Neo” Bui, associate professor in the department of MIS, marketing, and analytics, has been awarded a Fulbright-University of Vaasa Scholar Award. The prestigious award is administered through the U.S. Department of State and jointly funded by the Fulbright Finland Foundation and the University of Vaasa

As a Fulbright scholar, Bui is visiting the University of Vaasa for five months to work on a project related to cybersecurity resilience in the energy sector. In collaboration with his hosts, Dr. Tero Vartiainen and Dr. Duong Dang, he is exploring cybersecurity challenges and best practices in energy companies and comparing them with those in the US. The project aims to strengthen US-Finland collaboration in cybersecurity, an important topic given the current geopolitical landscape.

Recently, Bui reflected on his experience in Finland, in particular regarding why Finland is consistently ranked the happiest country in the world. He focuses on his experience related to Finland’s approach to nature and outdoor play, supportive social systems and family well-being, and positive work environment.

As Bui writes, “What we’ve learned is Finns are content with life through a combination of nature, community, work-life balance, and trust—all woven into the rhythm of everyday life.”
