To help address a lack of diversity, as well as gaps in AI curricula, RIT was awarded a grant of nearly $2 million by the NSF to create a new research traineeship program for graduate students

The three-year study, led by Eric Williams, a professor in the Golisano Institute for Sustainability, will look at how the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the transition toward increased telework and mobile working and resulting implications on data security and e-waste.

Analytics India Magazine mentions the RIT and NTID developed TigerChat app, aimed at helping improve communication for students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.

Anne Haake is stepping down as dean of RIT’s Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences (GCCIS) at the end of the 2021-2022 academic year. She plans to join the faculty following a sabbatical to refresh her research.

Elissa Weeden, associate professor, and Michael McQuaid, senior lecturer, each received a Teach Access Curriculum Development Award of $5,000. The awards will be used to develop educational materials and drive curriculum enhancements to introduce key concepts and skills on accessible design and development in university courses.

Monika Verma has dedicated her capstone project to COVID patients across the world, after the pandemic hit too close to home for her last year. The graduating human-computer interaction master’s student is drawing from her family’s experience with COVID in hopes of finding ways to help others in similar situations.

RIT’s Creative Industry “Day” drew a wide range of talent seekers from companies such as Amazon, Forbes Media, and Microsoft last week, as the 16th annual event went virtual Feb. 22-26 this year due to the pandemic.
