Biography

Dr. Kamal Shahrabi is the 4th president of RITK (AUK) and the first Engineer to lead the university. He developed and led the college through a comprehensive reorganization process that brought faculty, students, staff, and alumni together to chart RITK’s course for the coming decade. In recent years, the College has seen a significant increase in the number of applications/enrollments and continued success in student retention. Consistent with its new set priorities, RITK is now dramatically increasing need-based financial aid and merit scholarships to students.

Under his leadership, RITK has launched new initiatives in several areas, including creating a new BS Degree program in Computational and Information Technology; MS Degree program in Strategic Foresight and Innovation and Project Management, strengthening campus diversity and inclusion; transforming the college’s approach to preparing students for work and career, and significantly increasing fundraising.

President Shahrabi, before joining RITK was Dean of the School of Engineering Technology at Farmingdale State College a Campus of the State University of New York, where he was responsible for all academic programmatic and budgetary functions for the school, as well as the Institute of Research and Technology Transfer (IRTT), Renewable Energy and Sustainability Center (RESC), Green Building Institute, and Collegiate Science Technology Entry Program for Middle schools through college. He secured over 14 million dollars in grants, which have served to establish the Renewable Energy and Sustainability Center, construct a Demonstration Smart Residential House with three different renewable energy sources, construct a Small Wind Farm, and construct the Solar Carport with 20 charging stations to support our programs and faculty research. He previously served as Department of Technology Chair at Kean University, where he taught courses on Electronic Technology and Management Information systems.

Dr. Shahrabi is a member of the Association of Technology, Management and Engineering Technology, where he served as a member of the board of accreditation, accreditation team chair, and currently, he is serving as a past chair of the board of directors. 

Shahrabi received a Bachelor in Electrical Engineering from NJIT in 1983 and a Master of Engineering from City College of New York in 1985. In 1993, he received the Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy from the City University of New York.

RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) is Kosovo’s only private, nonprofit higher education institution which is partnered with the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in New York, USA.

Our level of success can be also measured by the quality of our students and by their successes in the private sector. With a 95% immediate employment rate and with over 68% of our Alumni holding Managerial positions, and 23% holding Senior Management positions, RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) degrees are in-demand by Kosovo’s bright and talented youth, as well as by companies and organizations seeking new employees or seeking to enhance the capacities of their current staff. 31% of our Alumni receive salaries above 1,000EUR which is more than double the national average for public and private sectors in Kosovo.

  • In January 2020, the Master’s program at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) will be fully re-instated, enabling graduate-level studies and globally-accredited academic opportunities for talented Kosovar youth, right here in Kosovo!
  • We are also preparing new infrastructural developments on our campus such as our Research and Development Laboratory and our Multi-Purpose Building, which will further enrich the student experience and provide state of the art resources and learning environments for our students.

    CIT-RITK Team's Collaborative Research Visit at St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences, Austria

    The CIT-RIT K Team recently undertook a collaborative research visit to St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences in Niederösterreich, Austria on April 8, 2024. This visit featured a series of engaging activities aimed at fostering academic exchange and innovation. Prof. Alexander Adrowitzer, the Academic Director of Digital Innovation and Research at St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences, extended an invitation to the CIT-RITK Research Team. Led by Professor Debabrata Samanta, the team included two exceptional students, Dea Tahiraj and Dijar Hashani, from the Department of Computer and Information Technologies (CIT).

    Best Poster Awards at Prestigious Springer Symposium on Image and Signal Processing

    In the distinguished gathering of the 5th ISSIP Symposium on 'Image and Signal Processing', amidst a sea of talented individuals from 15 teams and 76 participants in these competitions, two groups of students have ascended to the pinnacle of recognition. The coveted Best Paper Award has been conferred upon the exemplary teams from Codecraft and Cybermetic, whose outstanding contributions have left an indelible mark on the academic landscape.
