Newsmakers are a quick and easy way to acknowledge the professional and academic accomplishments of RIT students, faculty, and staff, such as publishing an article in a scholarly journal, presenting research at a conference, serving on a panel discussion, earning a scholarship, or winning an award. Newsmakers appear in News and Events as well as the "In the News" section on faculty/staff directory profile pages.

    The College of Liberal Arts/National Technical Institute for the Deaf production of I and You, directed by Assistant Professor Andy Head, has been invited to give three performances at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival for Region 2 on Jan. 14-18 at the University of Maryland at College Park. The production is one of only eight to receive the invitation.

    John Edlund, associate professor of psychology, received a presidential citation from the Psi Chi board of directors for his work with the international honor society in psychology. His work leading the Research Advisor Committee has led to numerous resources being developed to benefit students.

    Rebecca Scales, associate professor of history, received a National Endowment for the Humanities grant to serve as one of three co-directors for a two-week summer seminar (2020) for college and university faculty on the theme: “Radio and Decolonization: Bringing Sound into Twentieth-Century History.” The seminar will be held at the University of Denver.

    Caroline Snyder, emeritus professor and former chair of the Department of Science, Technology and Society, was honored with the 2018 Distinguished Service Award at the Sierra Club Award Ceremony in Denver, Colo., last fall. She shares the award with David Lewis, research director for the Focus for Health Foundation. They were both granted this award for their research on the long-term harm caused by biosolids as fertilizer for food and forage.
