Rebecca DeRoo, associate professor in the School of Communication, presented “Multimedia Urban Politics in Agnes Varda’s Daguerreotypes” in November at the University of Edinburgh, UK. In September, she discussed the film for Edinburgh’s Cinetopia Documentary Film Festival.

Kristoffer Whitney, assistant professor in the Department of Science, Technology and Society, published an article titled “Valuing Shorebirds: Bureaucracy, Natural History, and Expertise in North American Conservation” in the Journal of the History of Biology.

Rochester-based chamber music ensemble fivebyfive was awarded one of 16 grants distributed nationwide by the Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Program. Ensemble members are Laura Lentz, applied flute faculty, (flute); Sungmin Shin, applied guitar faculty, (electric guitar); Marcy Bacon (clarinet); Eric J. Polenik (bass); and Haeyeun Jeun (piano).

Eun Sook Kwon, an assistant professor of advertising in the School of Communication, had an article, “Impact of Media Context on Advertising Memory: A Meta-Analysis of Advertising Effectiveness,” voted Best Academic Paper of 2019 by the Journal of Advertising Research’s editorial board.

Nickesia Gordon, associate professor in the School of Communication, received the top paper award from the African American Communication and Culture Division of the National Communication Association in the division for her paper, “Discourses of Consumption: Representation of the Black Female Body as Food in Hip-Hop and R&B Songs Over the Past Twenty Years.”
