The primary goal of the deaf x lab is to understand how deafness and sign language affect the ways in which people extract visual information from the world around them. Staff and students in the lab have used a variety of tools to do this, including optical imaging (EROS), high density EEG, eye tracking, and behavioral studies. Research in the lab is funded by grants from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes for Health. Everyone in the lab uses ASL to communicate, and Dr. Dye is a proficient hearing signer.
