RITE Lab

The RITE Lab (Research on Interpreter and Translator Education) is NTID's first research lab dedicated to interpreter education and focuses on aspects of teaching and learning in the field.

Our work examines student learning, faculty development, curriculum design, educational resources, teaching strategies, and professional practice. Using frameworks such as andragogy, critical pedagogy, Bourdieu’s theory of cultural capital, and participatory action research, we aim to strengthen interpreter education by refining instructional approaches and expanding the knowledge base that supports the profession.

RITE Lab Think Tank session

Think Tanks

The RITE Lab has been hosting “think tank” sessions twice each semester since 2023. Undergraduate students, particularly those studying signed language interpretation, are invited to participate in facilitated discussions related to teaching and learning. The think tanks were designed to accomplish five specific objectives:

to foster collaboration among students and faculty

to spark student interest in research

to generate new research initiatives for the research lab

for students to practice deliberate communication

to produce actionable insights for improving interpreter education.
