Visual Media Option - Photographic and Imaging Arts BFA

RIT’s College of Art and Design hosted a dedication ceremony on Friday marking the recent completion of a “transformational” renovation of the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences and honoring the alumnus whose gift made it possible. The event honored Chance Wright ’18, ’19 and his mother, Pamela Mars Wright, whose $3.5 million gift fueled the renovation and reconfiguration of the third floor of Gannett Hall.

Film and Animation students Anna McClanahan (BFA) and Gabriel Ponte-Fleary (MFA) are finalists in Coca-Cola's Refreshing Films program. They are producing what is thought to be the program's first finalist film dealing with deaf and hard-of-hearing themes.

RIT's Schools of Art, American Crafts, Film and Animation, and Photographic Arts and Sciences are all under new leadership.

Graduating Visual Media student Trisha Pickelhaupt '21 is a multimedia Swiss Army knife, having produced videos and digital experiences for classes, internships and collaborative projects during her RIT career.

Renovation work inside RIT’s College of Art and Design—including key areas within the internationally recognized School of Photographic Arts and Sciences—is part of a five-year masterplan that has already begun to renovate, rejuvenate, and transform spaces to meet the growing demands for a college that serves as the university’s intersection of technology, art, and design.

RIT’s Creative Industry “Day” drew a wide range of talent seekers from companies such as Amazon, Forbes Media, and Microsoft last week, as the 16th annual event went virtual Feb. 22-26 this year due to the pandemic.

Film and photography students worked as camera operators and videographers as indie pop band MisterWives filmed a visual album in MAGIC Spell Studios. It's among the many examples of MAGIC providing professional-level experiences for students.

The $3.5 million project includes state-of-the-art editing labs and major upgrades to the student lounge and photography equipment cage.

RIT's Cary Graphic Arts Collection has received a donation of books and printing equipment from the estate of a noted historian of typography and early printing technologies. Stephen Saxe was an expert on American type foundries from the 19th century and a founding member of the American Printing History Association.

"Alien Xmas," a 40-minute stop-motion animation special directed by Stephen Chiodo '76 (Professional Photographic Illustration), premieres Nov. 20 on Netflix.

Photography student Will Moran '20 reacted swiftly to create Cabin Fever, an online publication highlighting work by artists while in quarantine. 

Sam Kang '19 (Photographic Sciences) organized a Facebook group where photography alumni are reviewing graduating seniors' portfolios.
