Instructional Designer
Part-time

The purpose of this position is to manage the development and delivery of eLearning courses as technical assistance provided by the National Deaf Center on Postsecondary Outcomes. Elearning courses are online professional development opportunities designed to strengthen knowledge, skills, and competencies in an effective and engaging learning format.

The Instructional Designer will design and build courses using NDC’s online platform (Canvas) that are aligned with targeted learning outcomes. Job responsibilities include consultation on curriculum design, formatting, and user experience, assisting with dissemination of course and assurance with accuracy and functionality of accessibility features, providing eLearning customer service support, and overall maintenance of elearning courses. This position requires a highly motivated self-starter with experience in pedagogical frameworks for online learning, instructional design, professional development and delivery of content and material, UX/UI design, online accessibility, as well as experience with project management. The successful candidate must possess the ability to deliver a high level of interactive customer service, develop and maintain collaborative, professional relationships inside and outside of the Center, prioritize efficiently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, as well as proactively solve problems. The Instructional Designer must be able to work independently, as well as work as a team member, and possess excellent interpersonal communication skills.

This is a 30hr/week position with the University of Texas, with all the benefits commensurate with the position. This will primarily be a remote position, with the possibility of occasional travel to, or periodic work in, the central Austin office.

Required Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, education, curriculum, and instruction or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with a least twelve (12) credit hours of instructional design coursework is required. Two (2) years of demonstrated experience in instructional design and/or curriculum design, including working directly with the design and delivery of online is required, as is experience using Learning Management Systems. Strong technical writing skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and knowledge of, or willingness to learn, American Sign Language.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications: A Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred, as is teaching experience, particularly online teaching in a higher education setting. Five (5) years of demonstrated experience in instructional design and/or curriculum design; Experience with the Canvas Learning Management System, knowledge of universal design, and expertise with the creation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant online courses, as well as proficiency with multimedia authoring tools are also all preferred. Fluency in American sign language.
