Job Description:
Reporting to the Deaf Mentor Coordinator the areas of responsibility is to
provide parent education the the Deaf Mentor Program in the conjunction with
the Early Learning Program and Arizona Early Intervention Program as mandated
by Part C (0-3) of the Individuals with Disability Education Act.
 
This position requires the provision of sensitive and effective communication
with families according to individual family needs recognizing the diverse
cultures and language backgrounds that are served by the program.  This
position also directs the families to community resources.  Travel is
required for delivery of services.
 
Effectively schedule and conducts home visits and instruction both in person
and via remote technology selecting and implementing the appropriate
curriculum to meet the needs of deaf, hard of hearing or deafblind children
and as defined in their IFSP(Individual Family Service Plan)/IEP (Individual
Education Plan) outcomes.  Creates and maintains reports and documentation
in compliance with federal and state laws. 



Requirements:
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Deaf Studies or related field of study required**
**A minimum of 4 years professional Deaf Mentorship experience or from a
related position may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree. Or a
combination of education and experience, with experience granted on a year to
year basis when accepting combination of education and professional
experience.
American Sign Language proficiency ASLPI 4 or higher
 
LICENSING CERTIFICATION AND REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to pass FBI and State background check
Defensive Driver Training Program to be completed by all agency personnel
that drive on State business
Valid Arizona State Drivers License
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Policies, procedures, and programs of the immediate work unit
Principles and practices of administration and management
Agency or program rules, regulations, and operating procedures
An understanding of Early Childhood Development
An understanding of Deaf Mentor practices
Knowledge  of community programs and resources
Basic knowledge about Deafness and impact on development
Basic knowledge of IDEA Part C (0-3)
Knowledge of Deaf Culture & History
Basic knowledge of Individual Family Service Plan/IEP
Agency or program rules, regulations, and operating procedures
Individual differences in family behavior and cultures
Multiple communication modalities - Define modalities
DEMONSTRATED SKILL/ABILITY TO:
Utilizing Various Deaf Mentor/Visual Communication Sign Language Tools and
checklists for monitoring development
Monitoring/assessing performance
Planning and organization
Social perceptiveness
Time Management
Verbal/non-verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with
families in appropriate languages
Skills in ASL for families using American Sign Language for children with
varied hearing levels
Teach American Sign Language in a classroom and or remote setting
knowledge of formal American sign language grammar
Time Management
