Job Title - Interpreter Tutor for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
Location - May vary based on student needs throughout all district schools
Required pre-employment- Clean Criminal background check, TB Test and Child
Protective Registry clearance must be completed prior to start of employment.
Compensation - Paid on the Teacher Salary Scale at the earned degree

SUMMARY:
Facilitate all communication, spoken and signed, between Deaf/Hard of Hearing
students and district staff or students by using a manual code of
communication appropriate for learning level of student. Adapt language and
materials to meet the needs of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing students. Tutor
academic classes and lessons. Provide information to hearing staff and
students to assist in better understanding the needs of Deaf/Hard of Hearing
students.

TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
Ability to frequently travel among district facility locations.
Strong interpersonal, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Knowledge of and ability to utilize various signing systems including, but
not limited to American Sign Language (ASL), Manually Coded English,
Conceptually Accurate Signed English (CASE), Cued Speech and Finger spelling.
Must demonstrate knowledge of oral interpreting skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with
people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
Operating knowledge of FM systems, cochlear implants, hearing aids and visual
aid equipment

Requirements:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

• Hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in any field from a regionally
accredited college or university, which has been submitted through an
official transcript in DEEDS; AND either
Holds national certification as a Generalist by the National Registry of
Interpreters for the Deaf (“RID”); or
Is a certified member of RID as an Educational Interpreter Performance
Assessment (“EIPA”) credentialed interpreter who achieved a level 4.0 or
higher on the Elementary or Secondary American Sign Language video stimulus
tapes evaluation. For purposes of Regulation 764, EIPA includes both the
Written Test and video stimulus tapes evaluation. State certification
