Bio
The first woman to lead NTID in the college’s history, Dr. Caroline M. Solomon has 25 years of experience in higher education, serving in a variety of faculty and administrative capacities. Prior to being named NTID president and RIT vice president, Solomon served as Dean of the Faculty at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. She also previously was director of Gallaudet’s School of Science, Technology, Accessibility, Mathematics and Public Health (STAMP). She was an accomplished teacher and researcher as a professor of biology throughout her tenure at Gallaudet University and is on the faculty at NTID as well as RIT’s College of Science.
A former Fulbright Fellow, Dr. Solomon has authored numerous academic papers, presented her research in the aquatic sciences, mentoring deaf and hard-of-hearing students in STEM, and development of STEM sign language lexicons at more than 35 conferences and has been a sought-after guest lecturer at colleges and universities.
Solomon is a native of Delaware. Her husband, Barry, is an attorney, and the couple has two children: Hannah and Eli.
