Portland native Leo Michelson amassed a large collection of contemporary artwork; one of the many artists he collected was the famous deaf artist Morris Broderson. Upon Michelson’s passing, he ensured that his collection of Broderson’s works were given to the Dyer Arts Center. This exhibition showcases the artworks Michelson donated and celebrates the artistic vision of Morris Broderson.

F-stop 5

Glass Room

Friday, January 16, 2026 - Tuesday, May 12, 2026

A group of five photographers work to connect the NTID community across alumni, current staff and students. They capture an array of images that explore a vibrant creative dialogue; each artist looks through the camera with a different perspective. These unique perspectives are reflected on the walls of the exhibit in an innovative way.

David Mudgett: The Chromatic Weave of Nature

Williams Gallery

Friday, October 3, 2025 - Friday, March 20, 2026

David Mudgett’s watercolors and sketches highlight the beauty found in everyday life. His subjects were diverse, waterways, mountains, forests, portraits, still lifes, houses, and city scenes, united by his delicate use of color and careful linework. Although the exact time he started painting is unknown, he was prolific from the mid-1940s to the 1960s and was mostly self-taught. While watercolor was his main medium, he also explored oils, pen, pastels, and charcoal. David and his wife, Grace, loved traveling, taking road trips every summer, initially with their daughter Patricia, and later with friends or alone. He always carried his brushes, paints, and a large portfolio to capture America's breathtaking landscapes and ancestral homes of the Mudgett and Davis families. His journeys spanned from Maine to Hawaii, and beyond to Canada and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Through his art, David left a heartfelt record of landscapes and life, providing timeless glimpses into the places and people he cherished.
