Panko and team publishes article

Tiffany Panko, research faculty in the Deaf Health Laboratory and Deaf Health Care and Biomedical Science Hub, collaborated with Tyler James from the University of Michigan and several other researchers to publish “Healthcare communication access among deaf and hard-of-hearing people during pregnancy” in the journal Patient Education and Counseling, volume 112. The team’s web-based survey revealed that people who are deaf and hard of hearing reported ineffective healthcare communications in different platforms (professional sign language interpreters, VRI, paper and pen, etc.), which emphasizes the need for improvement in the healthcare system in providing better communication accommodations.
