NTID Faculty Fellowship (NFF)
Overview
The NTID Faculty Fellowship (NFF) is a program designed to develop individuals (“fellows”) to pursue careers in deaf education at the postsecondary level. While NTID is particularly interested in increasing the number of STEM faculty, candidates from other disciplines offered by NTID are eligible to apply.
NFF provides fellows with up to three years of mentoring experiences, teaching experiences, support, and resources to prepare them for academic careers. Each fellow has an individualized professional development network that guides their overall career development and success. The program has two tracks: one for those who desire a postsecondary teaching career (lecture track or non-tenure track) and the other for those who desire a balanced teaching and scholarship career (assistant professor track or tenure track).
NFF is a collaboration of the NTID Academic Affairs (led by Gary Behm, Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs) and the NTID Office of Access, Engagement, and Success, (led by Alesia Allen, Assistant Vice President of Access, Engagement, and Success).
The NFF program is run by the Director (Sarah Sarchet), and Faculty Mentors (Ruchi Gamta, Bakar Ali, Colin Allen, and Thomastine Sarchet). Additionally, the NFF Director collaborates closely with the chairs of the NTID academic departments.

RIT scientists receive grant to expand work on a sign language lexicon for chemistry
A team of scientists at RIT will expand its work after receiving a large grant from the National Science Foundation to make chemistry more accessible for students who rely on American Sign Language interpreters in class. The team has been awarded nearly $380,000 for its proposal to transform chemistry for deaf and hard-of-hearing students via the design, implementation, and evaluation of a descriptive sign language lexicon.
