Deaf health research, neuroelectric imaging, cognitive neurobiology

My primary laboratory research focuses on influences of early-life adversity on dysregulation of adult weight control and frontal lobe self-regulation systems. We use psychophysical and EEG techniques to study this issue. My public health research focuses on physical, mental, and cognitive health disparities and health literacy of the D/HH community, in conjunction with the National Center for Deaf Health Research at the University of Rochester. We use sign language based and culturally appropriate health surveys to study these issues.

Since 2012 I have mentored over 30 undergraduate students, most of them Deaf or Hard of Hearing, for their senior capstone research projects, resulting in several nationally presented poster presentations and journal articles. I also mentor occasional graduate students in my lab and at other universities.
