Art, Activism & Allyship
Art is a conversation with the world, and artists have long used their work to power change — and to change power. Activism and art often share the same underlying motivations: communicating new perspectives, questioning the status quo, speaking out about beliefs, and inspiring others to take action.
Change also takes allies — accomplices — joining forces toward a shared goal. How do we actively engage a broader community to advocate for a better world? How does art become a platform for different voices?
Visiting faculty and artist Alexander Zimmerman (Zim) views his art as an avenue for engaging in the conversation around human rights and social justice. Join us for an artist talk with Zim on his newest work around trans rights and a larger conversation about the role for art, activism and allyship in shaping a different world.
Co-sponsored by the Division of Diversity and Inclusion and the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Resource Center.
