ASL Lecture Series: Dr. Amie Fornah-Sankoh
RIT/NTID’s ASL Lecture Series presents “The Science of Belonging” a lecture by RIT/NTID alum Dr. Amie Fornah-Sankoh ’14 (laboratory science technology), ’17 (biochemistry) 12-1 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, in NTID’s CSD Student Development Center 1300/1310.
Join Dr. Fornah-Sankoh as she shares how science has been both her profession and her pathway to belonging, and how she had to create space for herself in environments that weren't designed with her in mind. In “The Science of Belonging,” she weaves her journey as a Black Deaf woman scientist into a powerful reflection on human connection, healing, and understanding others.
Dr. Fornah-Sankoh is a scientist and advocate whose work bridges the worlds of research and human connection. As a Black Deaf woman, she has broken barriers in spaces where representation is rare, including her work at Dow Chemical Company, where she helped open the door for individuals who are Deaf.
She holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from University of Tennessee.
