AST Colloquium: Inspiring the Public to Explore the Universe
Inspiring the Public to Explore the Universe
Dr. Valerie Rapson
SUNY Oneonta
RIT AST Alum of 2015
Abstract:
Looking up at the night sky often inspires a sense of wonder about the Universe. People of all ages are inherently curious about astronomy, and it’s important that professional astronomers develop good communication skills so they can share the work they are doing with the public. In this talk, Dr. Rapson will discuss her path to a career in astronomy education and science communication, her past work as director of the Dudley Observatory, and plans for future projects utilizing the observatory, planetarium, and science center at SUNY Oneonta. She will also share some recent outreach projects conducted during the pandemic, and talk about how students can get involved in public outreach.
