CANCELLED: Brown Bag Faculty Lecture: Atia Newman
Please note this event is cancelled
Atia Newman, associate professor in RIT's School of Film and Animation, is presenting as part of the College of Art and Design's weekly Brown Bag Faculty Lecture Series. Her talk, titled "Moving Boundaries," is scheduled for noon to 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, in William Harris Conference Room (Gannett Hall, 2155).
Newman is an international 3D digital artist/animator with roots in Pakistan and one of the first women to ever work in the Pakistani animation industry. Starting from a traditional art background, she earned a BFA in graphic design and was immediately hired into a post-production house as a 2D animator. Within a month, she was working as a junior 3D animator and placed on a quick trajectory to team lead and project manager. It was then that Newman moved to New York City to earn an MFA in Digital Art from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, which made it possible for her to enter academia.
Her professional work includes an eclectic mix of commercials, movies, independent productions and even an AAA video game. Currently she is in the process of establishing a new venture that aims to preserve the past while exploring new technologies.
