Abstract:
The stuff of Western industrialized agriculture and a precursor to gunpowder, ammonia sparked a war, garnered a Nobel prize, and exalted academic careers. The synthesis and the modern achievements in reducing nitrogen to ammonia will be presented.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Michael Heagy is the head of RIT’s School of Chemistry and Materials Science. Dr. Heagy came to RIT from the New Mexico Institute of Mining & Technology, where he began his academic career as an assistant professor in 1996 and has served as the chair of the Department of Chemistry since 2016.
